British National Road Race 2014 – Abergavenny, Monmouthshire

Here are a few photos from my trip to Abergavenny, Monmouthshire Wales to see the British National Road Race 2014.

I planned my position on the main climb out Abergavenny to take advantage of seeing the Peloton go past 10 times but as a bonus saw them go both up and down the section I was on which was a real bonus.

I was hoping Bradley Wiggins was riding as he was listed on the starting line up but was disappointed not to see him, however the likes of Geraint Thomas, Peter Kennaugh, Ben Swift & Luke Rowe really made up for it. It was also great to see the Yates brothers battle it out and even better now Simon Yates has made it to the Tour de France at the weekend and showed some great form that could not be ignored in Abergavenny.

Such a shame and huge disappointment that Only Geraint Thomas has made it in to Team Sky’s Tour De France Squad. Something that still shocks and confuses me given how strong Swift and Kennaugh have been this year. Also the obvious admission of Wiggins who blew the field apart in the time trial showing what good form he is in. Sky have selected a squad which have seen little if any success this season and being a british based team rinding in Yorkshire surely best to have taken a few of the in form young british riders.

Time will tell if the selection was correct or not but i don’t feel Chris Froome will have it quite as comfortable this year as he did last. plus a lot of disappointed Team Sky fans in Yorkshire who have planned their trip for a few years now and travelled along way to see their heroes.

Any way enough Team politics, Heres some pictures from a great weekend in Wales. David Miller
